This page will be used to answer questions that are asked concerning the various scopes of work that are perfomed at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

                          (click on numbered links below)

1. Is it true that UDS is ceasing construction at Paducah, and consolidating their efforts on finishing the DUF6 plant at Portsmouth?

No, while it is certainly true that DOE and Congress are thoroughly dissatisfied with the lack of progress and the significant cost overruns of the DUF6 Paducah plant, there is no plans to cease work at Paducah.

2. Is it true that "new hires" and "trainees" are not covered by the contract until they complete their probationary period?

No. All new hires and trainees are fully covered by the contract on their first day of work. They are also subject to the "probationary employee" language that is in the contract. This language has different time limits depending on what classification a new employee has.

3. Is USEC really a "front" for the DOE?

No. USEC was created as a goverment corporation (similar to TVA) in 1992, and the was privatized in 1996. The DOE would prefer to let somebody else run the plant, and will "prop up" USEC to some extent, but USEC is not a part of the DOE.
